Purpose:
St. Petersburg College has long been known as the pre-eminent place for online education. As the higher education industry has evolved, many other institutions have entered the online teaching arena and SPC is facing significant competition in this market. In addition, SPC’s student success statistics support the need to improve online education and learning – both in asynchronous and online synchronous courses.

Under the leadership of SPC’s Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) and the Instructional Design Education and Support Team (IDEAS), two Circles of Excellence will be formed – one for faculty who excel at teaching in the online modality and one for faculty who excel at teaching in the Live Online modality. The Circles of Excellence will recognize and celebrate faculty and engage them in mentoring other faculty to improve online and Live Online teaching.
